Brunswick to Annapolis

Up, up and away!

On June 30th we departed Brunswick, GA to Annapolis. We timed our departure to the outgoing tide. Once in the Atlantic we had light winds on the first day. On the morning of day two the wind strengthened from astern and we took off in route to the Gulf Stream. By the end of day two the wind died but we were on the great conveyor belt moving us along around eight knots. The wind was very light and on the nose for the last four days so we were forced to motor. On the early morning of July 2nd we encountered some severe thunderstorms and altered course to the north to get behind them. We did not see much traffic in the Atlantic until we arrived off Cape Hatteras. We had a southern current helping us along after entering the Chesapeake so we motored all night and anchored in the Patuxent River on the morning of July 4. Amy made some hamburgers to celebrate the holiday in style. On the 5th we weighed anchor, got some fuel in Solomons and motored in light air to anchor to Annapolis harbor. On the way we passed the anchored boats Ice Bear and Isbjorn of Andy Schell podcast fame and the catamaran Clarity of the YouTube channel the O’Kelly’s motored by us in Annapolis Harbor.

On the 6th our slip was ready at Bert Jabin’s Yacht Yard so we weighed anchor and headed into Back Creek. On the way in we said hello to our fellow Caribbean 1500 Rally boat Blue Pearl at the fuel dock. Once docked, we set off on a task list in preparation of our maintenance visit and haul out. On the 7th we hauled out. The SV Delos was being launched right before we came out of the water bringing out a crowd of spectators as well as its celebrity crew. Next it was our turn. It is always exciting to see your home suspended in the air!

Thanks J&A! Glad the passage was smooth and hope the maintenance work goes well. Maybe you can enjoy a beverage with the SV Delos crew in another port! 😎
