On August 28th we left Block Island for East Greenwich. We did not go ashore at Block Island due to a parade of severe storms with 25 knot winds that caused us to drag some in the deep harbor. Boats were dragging all around us as well. We discovered when we departed that the bottom was a messy thin mud that contributed to the poor holding. We plan to return here after Labor Day when it is less crowded and check out the sights ashore. The sail to the mainland had light winds coming from all directions. We eventually turned on the engine when we went head to wind. We took a berth at Safe Harbor Cowesett Marina. Upon arrival we were greeted and treated to a awesome meal by our friends Buddy & Renee. We know Buddy & Renee from AYC and the Thistle fleet and they live aboard their beautiful stars & stripes blue Tartan 4700 Star Watch home based at the marina. One of the few downsides about cruising is not being able to see your friends as much, so it is a treat to see familiar faces. East Greenwich is a very nice walkable place with lots of small shops and restaurants that is not touristy. It is pleasant now but are willing to bet it will be a little chilly in a few months. We are happy to see highs in the 70’s here vs. the 90’s in the Chesapeake for sure. Currently, Massachusetts has a two week quarantine on Rhode Island, so we will hold off visiting Martha’s Vineyard and check out some anchorages in RI.
