On the 19th we departed Coral Bay back to Cruz Bay to complete our circumnavigation of St. John. We stayed an extra day in Coral because the weather was a little sporty outside the bay. On the way back we passed the infamous Little St. James Island, former home of Jeffrey Epstein. We then made a pit stop in Red Hook to top off our diesel. We had never been to Red Hook and the small bay was packed with moored boats making navigation difficult. We had to back up to turn around to get to the fuel dock and briefly tapped the muddy bottom for the first time since we have had Renegade. After fueling it was back to Caneel Bay area and a visit to Cruz Bay for burgers (in Amy’s case a veggie) ashore for lunch.
Our plan was to leave for SXM on the 21st, but the weather models are now showing a southerly wind around Tuesday or Wednesday. This means we could sail directly on a close reach in much more comfort if it holds. The downside is it looks like we would arrive when customs are closed for for Christmas and Boxing Day (26th) so we would have to stay on the boat until they open on the 27th. We will keep an eye on the forecast see what materializes.

All these years I believed the winds down there were constant (except for hurricanes) Now you have destroyed my vision of paradise.
How long is the passage to SXM and what does that even stand for?

SXM=St. Maarten (Dutch side), It usually takes close to 24 hours to get there upwind, but PredictWind says around 13 if it is a straight shot with the Southerly wind.
Nice hat ! I still think you should go to St. Eustatius. Or Nevis. Or both. Anguilla is nice too. Party at the farm tonight ! We’ll miss you !
Please tell everyone hello and send us a group photo!
