We have had great weather since arriving in Elizabeth Harbour and the time has come again for a front with big winds to to pass through for five or more days. In preparation we picked up some fresh groceries in Georgetown and headed to a sheltered area of Stocking Island named Sand Dollar Beach. The beach has a well marked hiking trail over to the Atlantic side with overhanging limestone cliffs. We anchored in deeper water giving some drag room for all the shallow draft boats closer to the beach. The wind picked up and clocked last night so I kept an anchor watch to make sure both we and our neighbors reset without issue. Around 11 PM I noticed the 135 foot superyacht Caryali swinging (aka surging in nautical lingo) dramatically as well as dragging back toward us! As I was getting ready to hail her, I heard an alarm, she lit up like a Christmas tree and all hands ran on deck. She then powered forward and set her second anchor. The crew did a great job because the big yacht was surrounded by several boats and it was pitch black out. I heard traffic on the VHF of boats dragging in the harbour throughout the night. After the reset Caryali stayed put but was still a little close so we picked up anchor this morning in the strong breeze and moved in front of the beautiful Kahari Resort.

Sounds a bit scary!! So the spade reset nicely then? From what I read, this seem one of the strengths of the spade?
It got the blood moving for sure and I woke Amy believing we had to pick up and get out of there. The problem was the big yacht was swinging over our anchor. Since arriving in the Bahamas we have set on the first drop on all but one location with thick grass and not dragged on the 180 wind shifts. I am not sure why we have had such good luck. Just today, the O’Kellys dropped anchor around three times near us and could not get it to set right so they moved on. I am not sure what anchor they use.
