This morning we had a nice sail under genoa to the capital city of St. John’s. This is where yachts must go for outbound clearance under the emergency curfew. Jim went ashore to one of the large cruise ship piers and completed the check out process. At customs he met a dutch sailor who was also checking out to sail across the Atlantic to Europe solo. This whole area is designed for cruise ship passengers so it was like an eerie ghost town. While there Jim wondered around and found a place that made take out burgers and brought a few back to the boat. The only ship in the harbor is a transport loading yachts to deliver to the Mediterranean. With islands not opening to the south for hurricane season, this is an option if you do not want to sail to the US or Europe. After eating we put the dinghy on the deck and Jim went up the mast to check for problems and spray the main track with McLube. Amy made some brownies so we are ready to go in the morning to the USVI. Please feel free to watch our path on the “Where is Renegade?” tab. The trip should take about a day.
