Black Point

Anchorage as seen from laundromat terrace. Eagle rays and sharks swim by for entertainment.

On the 14th, with wind on our nose and limited depth to beat upwind, we motored to Black Point. Black Point is a great anchorage protected from all but the west winds. It is famous in the Exumas for….a laundromat! Yes, boats come in from all over the chain to do their laundry and maybe get a meal at one of its three small restaurants. We have been staying longer than planned for three reasons, first to get south we would have to beat upwind or motor so we are waiting for better winds. Second, while walking down an exposed limestone road the other day I snagged my foot an tore off the end of my big toe. In the excitement to get to the boat and the medical kit to stop the bleeding I tied off the dinghy poorly and it drifted away. Amy seeing this from the laundromat dispatched a kind neighbor in his dinghy to retrieve it back to the boat. We learned there is a clinic in the settlement so I went there for steri-strip application and orders to keep it dry. The last reason we are still hanging here is an approaching front packing 30+ knot NE winds will swing in the next few days and this is the best place to shelter. After the front flows through we will be off to the cruising mecca of Georgetown!
