Anse Mitan

Renegade off Anse Mitan

On the 8th we headed south to Anse Mitan. We had hopes of climbing Mt. Pelee but it stayed covered in clouds and rain while we were in Saint-Pierre. Our beam reach south started nicely, however the wind turned to the south and some large rain storms materialized so we took in sail and motored the rest of the way. In the storm we came across a fleet of Lasers racing offshore to our surprise and slowed down allowing them to pass ahead. Anse Mitan is the original resort area of Martinique across the bay from the capital of Fort De France. There are several boats that come and go during the day and the beaches echo with music into the night. The mountain ranges are not as high in this part of the island so the easterly trade winds flow freely.
