We are currently hiding out a big blow here at the Old Bahama Bay Marina in West End, Grand Bahama. This is the first time we have tied up to a dock in over three months so I am going ashore more to get some exercise and Amy found a mini gym. Last year we anchored in an abandoned canal near here for a few days and go fast boats would come in at night to load up cargo with no lights. Due to West End’s proximity to Florida I get the impression inventory comes in to escape high tariffs and narcotics go out, so it has a smugglers feel to it. Yesterday I walked a few miles to the West End settlement. It looked like it had been hit by a hurricane and never recovered. Some buildings has blue tarps on the roof and around a third of them were abandoned. The few folks I saw on the street where really out of it and appeared to be in an altered state. Today I walked around the Bahama Bay area and some of the back trails in the surrounding woods. I found the local airstrip and an abandoned golf course. The golf course was overgrown with 15 ft shrubs you would never know it was a golf course unless you had a map. The whole area is overrun with meandering unmarked roads adding to the smugglers paradise theme. It looks like we have a possible window to Georgia Thursday, so stand by for departure news.
