On the 11th we left the Exuma Land and Sea Park bound for Staniel Cay. The forecast looked like we could sail but the wind ended up on the nose so we motored south. We anchored off an island named Big Majors Spot which was a little tricky to get into with low depths. Big Majors is the home of the original world famous swimming pigs. Tour boats come in all day from afar to offload visitors to see these curious creatures. We decided to check it out during a break in the boat parade. Amy grew up on a pig farm and I have been hearing for years everything there is to know about pigs. I landed Amy on the beach with some raisin bread and lettuce. Only one pig came out to greet her because the others appeared to be sleeping. The young female pig ate the raisin bread, ignored the lettuce, and chased Amy and demanded more. The experienced pig farmer screamed like a little girl and jumped in the dinghy. The persistent porker then swam over and attempted to put its front legs in the boat and board us! I backed off but it swam out about 100 feet so it must have really liked that stale raisin bread.
When we returned Clarity from the YouTube sailing channel the The O’Kelly’s was anchored right beside us. We like this channel and if we updated our our top ten sailing channels we would probably swap out Delos for the The O’Kelly’s. Megan and Nick O”Kelly sort of look like a late 40’s version of Cersei and Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones. He was a former weather man on TV and has a smooth presentation. They share tips on the live aboard lifestyle as well as document the places they visit. We thought of dropping over to say hi but they already had a non-stop number of fans (but not as many as the pigs) coming by to see them so we decided to give them some space.

I’ve heard of flying pigs but what the @#$& ?
What if you fed them some bacon ? 🙈
We did see a chicken eating a fried chicken wing on the side of the road the other day.
Great blog! Amy, you look awesome and looks like you still know pig language.! Beautiful place!
Thanks Jim for sharing this delightful story and pics. I had never heard of swimming pigs but I bet they are cleaner than your average, run of the mill pig.
Thanks and they do seem cleaner and also sun burned
Thanks and it was fun to apply Amy’s hog skills to the cruising life.
I thought the O’Kelly’s looked alike…I would be nice to them, they might use wildfire to clear the anchorage!
Lucky for us they were happy because dinghies came by baring them gifts
